HOMER – Douglas Wilbanks, 66, died quietly and peacefully from complications of lung cancer on Monday, September 3, 2012, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Commerce, the son of the late Parks and Dannie Lee Benton Wilbanks. He was of the Baptist denomination and was retired from the construction industry.
Survivors include his wife, Jo Cotton Kesler Wilbanks, Homer; a son, Tracey Wilbanks, Jefferson; brother, Ken Wilbanks, Commerce; and one granddaughter. Doug was best friends to Jo’s two children, Randy Kesler (Teresa) and Jennifer Waldsmith (John). He was grandfather to their children, Evan and Taylor Kesler, Daniel McElroy and Joi and James Waldsmith; and one great-grandchild, Irie Rose McElroy.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m., Wednesday, September 5, at the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home with Brian Stowe and the Rev. Marty Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Grove Level Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, September 4, from 5 to 8 p.m.
