LULA – Jean Garrison Murray, 92, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 4, 2012, at her residence.
Born in Lula on March 21, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Dock B. and Inez Massey Garrison. Mrs. Murray was a life-long resident of Lula and was the valedictorian of the Class of 1937 at Hickory Flat School. She worked in quality control at Chicopee Manufacturing, now known as Johnson & Johnson, for over 35 years. Mrs. Murray was a member of the Antioch Fire Baptized Holiness Church and a member of the Johnson & Johnson Retiree Association.
In later years, Mrs. Murray was a homemaker, enjoyed gardening with flowers, and was famous for her coconut cakes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Edd Murray; brothers, Alta Garrison, Roy Garrison; sisters, Evelyn Griffin, Dixie Griffin, Mary Garrison; and sister-in-law and husband, Bobbie and Jay Hayes.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Kathryn and Artis Haynes, Carolyn and William Carpenter, all of Lula; grandchildren, Tim Haynes, Myra and Dwayne Roberts, Amy and Roger Keebaugh, Angie and Bradley Ledford, and Chris and Carrie Carpenter; great-grandchildren, Lauren and Scott Gaddis, Sydney Haynes, Roger Lee Keebaugh, Sarah Keebaugh, Will Ledford, Wes Ledford, Kailey Holmberg; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary Sue and Billy Meeks, Lula; sister-in-law, Francine Garrison, Union City; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. on Friday, September 7, at the Antioch Fire Baptized Holiness Church with Bro. Derrell Corn and the Rev. Gary Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with the Rev. Jacob Armour officiating at the graveside.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 9 p.m. on Wednesday, September 5, and from 3 until 5 p.m. and 7 until 9 p.m. on Thursday, September 6.
