Doris Stinchcomb Appleby, 87, died Saturday, February 21, 2015.
A Barrow County native, she was born November 19, 1929, to Dallas and Katherine Brewer Chapman. Doris was a member of the Winder First UMC and attended Winder First Baptist as well. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Post 1138, a long-time employee of R & R Manufacturing in Auburn, and also caretaker of the elderly for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband and children’s father, Nixon Stinchcomb; son Steve Stinchcomb; husband, Walter Appleby; and brother, Tommy Maxey.
Survivors include a daughter, Jo Watkins, Winder; sisters, Sue Sellers, Winder, Barbara Papanicolaou, Loganville, Voncile Wehunt , Winder, Hilda Ledbetter, Winder, and Geridine Chapman, Athens; brother, Mike Maxey, Winder; grandchildren, Tara and Michael Farmer, Winder; Nickolette and Clay Banks, Leesburg; Matthew and Haruko Watkins, Dacula, and Shannon Stinchcomb, Winder; and ten great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, February 22, at Smith Funeral Home in Winder. Burial was at Barrow Memorial Gardens in Winder.
