ATHENS – William Walker Word, Jr., 75, died on Friday, April 17, 2015, at University Nursing and Rehabilitation Center with his daughter, Celinda Wilson present.
He was born in Atlanta on March 18, 1940, the son of the late William Walker Word, Sr. and Lorene Chafin Word. He was preceded in death by a sister, Constance Gail Word Hnatusko (2007); and ex-wife, Virginia Lea Bowser Word (2013).
Mr. Word was a resident of Athens since boyhood, attending Barrow Elementary and Athens High. He was a graduate of Truett-McConnell College in Cleveland. Mr. Word retired from Russell Daniel, Inc., where he was a sales representative for farm machinery, recreational boats, and boat motors. He very much enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening in his younger years.
Survivors include his daughter, Celinda Lea Word Wilson; Celinda’s husband, Shon Emory Wilson; and grandsons, Austin Jeremiah Wilson and Troy Isaiah Wilson, of Athens.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 25, at 10:30 a.m. at Evergreen Memorial Park, Atlanta Highway in Athens.
