Rebecca Dyer Stowe, 56, Jefferson lost her courageous battle with cancer on Sunday August 16, 2015.

Services will be held at First Baptist Church on Tuesday, August 18 in Jefferson with Dr. Michael Helms officiating. A private internment will preceded the service.

Survivors include husband Roy Stowe, Jefferson and son Nicholas (Nick) Stowe, Jefferson; parents William Harold Dyer and Dolores Hall Dyer, Blairsville; and siblings Denise Driskell and Bill, Blairsville; Debbie Brasewell and Randy, Lilburn; Anita Walker and Ivan, Blairsville; and David Dyer and Norma, Winder.

Born in Atlanta, Ga., August 1, 1959, she grew up in Blairsville, Ga. where her family has deep Appalachian roots. Becky, as she was known by her friends and family, had a quiet strength that radiated to all around her.

She could be stoic when the occasion called for strength, but also disarming with a wry sense of humor.

When asked to describe her in one word, many friends chose “loyal.”

“She’s the most beautiful and courageous woman I’ve ever met,” said one friend. “Becky’s a wonderful mother and wife and her faith is inspiring.”

Becky was a voracious reader and could comment with depth on both current and historical events covering a broad range of subjects. That earned her the title of “Jeopardy Queen” among her friends.

She loved to travel with her husband, Roy and son Nick, on adventures near and far. Those adventures took them from snow skiing in the Rockies, to kayaking along beaches on the East Coast to travels in England, Spain and Italy.
From many of her travels, she brought home unique shelf-size Santa Clauses to add to an extensive collection she would display at Christmas.

She was also adventurous in her own backyard. When Nick was young, she would host an annual pumpkin carving for him and his friends at Halloween. The notion of young kids with sharp knives never seemed to bother her as it did many of the other parents who hovered anxiously nearby.

Becky was also known as a wonderful hostess for quiet evenings with friends, times filled with good food, good wine and much laughter.

In facing her illness, Becky drew strength and resolve from the hundreds of people who reached out to her in large and small ways.

“We didn’t choose this journey,” she said, “but I can choose how I react to it.”

Professionally, Becky had worked for 30 years with Regions Bank as Area Marketing Manager. She attended graduated from Union County High School and was STAR student in 1977. She earned an Associate of Science in Education in 1979 from Young Harris College and a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from the University of Georgia in 1981.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, Jefferson where she taught Sunday School.

Memorials may be made to the Becky Dyer Stowe Scholarship, C/O Young Harris College, 1 College Street, Young Harris, Georgia 30582.

Evans Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
