Gloria Swanson Mock James, 72, went to be with the Lord Sunday, September 20, 2015.
She was a resident of Statham, and was the daughter of the late Harvey Asbury and Ollie Elizabeth Mock of Sylvania.
A native of Screven County, Ga., she completed college courses in accounting and worked in various state and federal jobs across the state retiring from USDA Farm Services Agency, Athens, in 2005. She was a licensed pilot and avid racing fan. Her favorite pastimes were visiting the beach, especially Daytona and St. George Island, Fla. She also enjoyed time with her family as a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Gloria was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Williams Charles “W.C.” James, Jr..
Survivors include two sons, Rev. Terry Charles and (Judy) James, Colbert, William Charles “Bill “ James III, and (Jeff Keen), Danielsville; one daughter, Susan James and (Scott) Peacock, Duluth; three grandchildren, Kelsey James (Daniel) Morris, Colbert, and James and Mason Peacock, Duluth.; two great-grandchildren, Luke and Lawson Morris, Colbert.; two sisters, Lela Mock Oliver, Sylvania, and Shelby Jean Mock Miles, Statesboro; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Smith Funeral Home Chapel of Winder Thursday, September 24, at 11 a.m. with visitation on Wednesday, September 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. The Rev. Terry C. James will be officiating. Interment will be at Barrow Gardens adjacent to the funeral home.
The family would like to express appreciation for the outstanding care from the staff of Mulberry Grove in Statham.
