JEFFERSON – Young “Y.D.” Maddox, Jr., 77, residing in Marietta since January 2006, left this life for his heavenly home on Wednesday, October 31, 2012.
He was born in Jefferson on January 4, 1935, the son of late Y.D. Sr. and Eloise Moseley Maddox. Y.D. professed his faith in Jesus Christ at a young age. He was an active member of the Bethany United Methodist Church, where he served in various leadership roles. A mission trip to Jamaica was a very rewarding experience for him. Following graduation from the University of Georgia, he continued and further developed his father’s meat processing business. In later years, he worked until retirement as a meat inspector for the State of Georgia.
Survivors include two sisters, Reid Coons (Frank), Marietta, and Clara Segars, Knoxville, Tenn.; five children, Beth Schuler (Bob), Roswell, John Maddox (Suzette), Pell City, Ala., Michael Maddox (Teresa), Sherrills Ford, N.C., Elizabeth Mitchell, Douglasville, and David Maddox (Ruth), Woodstock; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Friday, November 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Marietta Funeral Home, 915 Piedmont Rd., Marietta. The funeral service will be held at Evans Funeral Home, 1350 Winder Hwy., Jefferson, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 3, with the Rev. Glenn Ray of Marietta officiating. The family will receive friends at Evans Funeral Home on Saturday from 12:30 p.m. until the service time. Burial will be at Woodbine Cemetery in Jefferson.
