JEFFERSON – Peggy Sue Chasteen Stephens, 74 passed away Monday, February 15, 2016, in Athens.
Peggy was born in Anderson, S.C. on May 30, 1941. She was the daughter of the late William Thomas Chasteen and Ruth King Chasteen. She lived most of her life in the Atlanta area, but had lived in Jefferson for the past 10 years. She was a 1959 Graduate of Lavonia High School. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Jefferson and previously Calvary Baptist Church in Lilburn. She worked for several large companies including Singer, Coca-Cola and Kodak. She was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Risner.
Survivors include her husband, Harold Kay Stephens, Jefferson; daughters, Linda Stephens Howarth, Dahlonega, and Jennifer Lynn Stephens, Gainesville; son and daughter-in-law, Robert Anthony Stephens and Christina Michelle Stephens, Fayetteville, Ga.; granddaughters, Heather Leigh Howarth, New York, N.Y., Abigail Joan Stephens, Rebekah Ann Stephens and Mary Bernadette Stephens, all of Fayetteville; sister and brother-in-law, Edith and Dan Turpin, Martin, Ga.; brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Cheryl Chasteen, Athens, GA; brother, Doug Chasteen of Gainesville, GA ; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Debbie Chasteen of Athens; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Runnels, Shirley Smith, Sylvia Barber and Sue Ward; special friends, Bill and Lavon Venable; and a host of friends and family.
Celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 17, at the First Baptist Church of Jefferson. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Dr. Michael Helms will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Jefferson, 246 Washington St., Jefferson, GA 30549.
