Following his retirement, he and Katheryn relocated from Bridgeport to Rock Lake, near Fairmont, where they had many friends.

He was always active in church and community activities. He was an ordained elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Clarksburg, W.Va. and was part of the core group that founded the Bridgeport Presbyterian Church, where he was also an elder. Over the years his community service activities included President of the Clarksburg Jaycees, President of the Clarksburg Credit Grantors Association, and active membership in the Clarksburg and Bridgeport Lions Club, Fairmont Businessman’s Association and the Shepherds Corner, among many others.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Linda Hartley and Phillip S. O’Neal, Danielsville, with whom he made his home for the past six years; his beloved godson, Ryan (Jamie) Nicewarner; special sisters-in-law, Eleanor M. (Harlan) Janes, Louise McGinnis, and Carma McGinnis; brother-in-law, Wayne (Carol) McGinnis; many nieces and nephews; special “daughters”, Marsha Stuart and Pamela Simpson-Shaw; and his constant canine companions, Katie and Murphy.
