ROYSTON – Retha Burgess Burdette, 86, passed away Monday, December 9, 2013, at the Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens.
She was born in Royston on June 12, 1927, the daughter of the late James Albert and Belle Hill Burgess. She was a spinner having worked for Wamsutter, and was a member of the New Bethel Congregational Holiness Church in Royston. Mrs. Burdette was preceded in death by her husband, Henry J. Burdette; and her 10 siblings.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Leon and Stephanie Rousey, Royston; grandchildren, Stephanie Thomas, Steve Rousey, and Sherron Madden; great-grandchildren, Collin Thomas and Mikayla Thomas; bonus family that was very special to her, John and Jessica Crawford and their children, Allen, Josie, and June.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 15, at the Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Paul Hood, Terry Bailey, and Clay Huff officiating. Interment will be at 2 p.m. Monday, December 16, at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Anderson, S.C.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12 noon until the funeral hour on Sunday. The family is at home.
