Roy Edwin Plott went to be with our Lord and his wife Carol on Friday, December 13, 2013.

He was born in Whitfield County, Georgia, on July 15, 1918. He was raised in Tiger until school age at which time he was enrolled at the Tallulah Falls School, where he got his education and worked for his tuition. After school, he joined the Coast Guard, working primarily on the Great Lakes. When World War II broke out, the Coast Guard was incorporated into Navy. He was assigned to landing craft and landed troops on beachheads in Tripoli, Tunisia, Sicily, and finally in Normandy. After the war, he worked for Lockheed in Marietta, where he worked on the C-130 program. After that, he worked for a number of insurance companies, spending the last 20 years with Chubb, Inc., With his mountain upbringing and skills learned in the Navy, he could build anything, fix anything, and grow anything. His yard was always the prettiest in the neighborhood and he always had a great garden.

He married the late Carol Peterson of Duluth, Minn., and they made their home in DeKalb County. Carol was the church secretary at the Peachtree United Methodist Church, where Roy also served as an elder.
He is survived by his brother, Tom Plott, Clayton; two children, Roy Plott, Jefferson, and Sandy Brogdon, Toccoa; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He spent his last six and half years at Bentley Assisted Living, where he suffered from dementia. He was a kind and generous man and always referred to as a true southern gentleman, one of our greatest generation.

A memorial service will be held at Bentley Assisted Living for residents, staff, and family members.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Alzheimer Association.
