PHENIX CITY, ALA. – Kathryn Coleman Johnson, 94, , formerly of Commerce, went home to be with the Lord and her deceased husband, Kyle Johnson, on Friday January 3, 2014, in Columbus.
She was born August 10, 1919, in Geneva, Ala., the daughter of the late Andrew and Dora Strickland Coleman.
Survivors include a sister, Pauline Coates and her devoted niece and caregiver, Sue Barbaree, both of Phenix City, Ala.; sister-in-law, Betty Jo Mathis, Roswell; nephew, David Kyle Mathis, Cumming, and his wife Jane; great-niece, Amanda Mathis, Brookhaven; nephew, Tony Coleman, Eufaula, Ala.; niece, Carol Land, LaGrange; nephew, Emmitt Dixon, Geneva, Ala.; and several great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Other than her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by nieces, Patsy Coleman Watson and Betty Martin Bottoms; parents-in-law, Hobson (Hob) and Ruth Crittenden Johnson; sisters-in-law, Faith Johnson Taylor, and Mary Johnson Phillips; and her brothers-in-law Lloyd Mathis, Charlie Phillips, Ellwood Coates, and Wallace Taylor.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, January 8, at the Hebron Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday at the Hebron Presbyterian Church from 1 p.m. until the service time.
