JEFFERSON – Martha Dean Fite Head, 101, passed away on Sunday, July 29, 2012.
She was born in Jackson County, the daughter of the late Judge Pemberton and the Martha Crooks Cooley. Mrs. Head was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church of Jefferson. She graduated from Piedmont College and taught school at the Martin Institute. Mrs. Head was preceded in death by her husbands, George Henry Fite and Sidney A. Head; daughter, Martha Pem Fite Deadwyler; and seven brothers and sisters.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Henry and Sandra Fite, Jefferson; grandchildren, Chantel and Stacy Tolbert, Kelby and Jaime Fite, Marla Cooley, Peggy Deadwyler, Sandi Deadwyler, and James H. Deadwyler; brother, Hugh T. Cooley, Commerce; 12 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 1, at 11 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church of Jefferson with the Revs. Pemberton Cooley III and Chris Laskey officiating. The burial will follow in the Woodbine Cemetery. The visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 31, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
