BALDWIN – Charles Frances Cross, 73, passed away peacefully at his residence on Wednesday, August 8, 2012.
He was born in Middlesex County, New Brunswick, N.J., on May 28, 1939. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Harry Charles Cross and Alice Boudreau Cross. Mr. Cross was a retired United States Marine Captain serving 22 years for our country. He worked for the poultry industry for six years as a maintenance engineer. After that he became a poultry farmer for 21 years. He loved the farm and he and his wife had many good times during those years.
Survivors include his loving wife of 33 years, Sarah Yarber Cross, Baldwin; a son and daughter-in-law, Charles Francis Jr. and Virginia Cross, Port Charlotte, Fla.; daughter, Jane Marie Cross and Charles Watkins, Swansboro, N.C.; daughter, Joan Margaret Cross Morton, Swansboro, N.C.; stepson and daughter-in-law, Wesley and April Meeler, Alto; and 12 grandchildren, Lauren Cross, Jacob and Nicole (Nikki) Morton, Trey and Alex Watkins, Brooke, Brady, Brannon, Bailen, Brexley, Betheny, and Blayre Meeler.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m., Saturday, August 11, at Grace Baptist Church, Cornelia, with the Rev. Phillip Yarber and Charles Chapman officiating. Interment will follow in Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery, Baldwin, with full military honors provided by the United States Marine Corps Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m., Friday, August 10, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin.
