GAFFNEY, S.C. – Rev. Lester Arnold Haney, 74, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 22, 2014, at his residence.
Born in Asheville, N.C., he was the husband of Judy Wise Haney and son of the late Robert Lee Haney and Martha Jane Bishop Haney. Rev. Haney was a retired minister and chaplain, previously serving as pastor of Danielsville Evangelical Methodist Church in Danielsville, First Evangelical Methodist Church in Bayou, La Batre, Ala., Westview Evangelical Methodist Church in Spartanburg, S.C., Shamrock Evangelical Methodist Church in Burlington, N.C., and Mt. Whitaker Baptist Church in Blacksburg, S.C. He also served as interim pastor at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Blacksburg, S.C. and Smyrna Baptist Church in Smyrna, S.C. Rev. Haney was an antique collector and loved gardening and flowers. Mr. Haney was preceded in death by four brothers; and two sisters.
Survivors in addition to his wife include a son, Lester Arnold Haney, II and wife, Steffanni, Greer, S.C.; two daughters, Rachel Marett and husband, Chad, and Lori Maynor and fiancé, David Wardell, all of Gaffney, S.C.; a sister, Mary Chapman, Asheville, N.C; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 26, at Midway Baptist Church with the Revs. Vernon Craig and Billy Carey officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
