JEFFERSON – G. H. Kinney, 88, passed away Sunday, July 20, 2014.
Mr. Kinney was born in Jackson County, the son of the late Virgil and Alma Bachelor Kinney. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II at the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Kinney was a construction superintendent for many years and retired from Vandiver Construction Company. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Jefferson. Mr. Kinney was preceded in death by his wife, Ida Elizabeth Carter Kinney; two brothers, Hubert and Orin Kinney; and a sister, Gertrell Guinn.
Survivors include children, Diane Roberts, Athens, Larry Kinney, Waynesboro, and Greg Kinney, Hoschton; grandchildren, Gene Roberts, Jr., Dr. Justin Kinney, Cory Pritchard and Kristen Blais; five great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Saturday July 26, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home with the Rev. Eric Shelton and Dr. Justin Kinney officiating. Interment will follow in Jackson Memorial Park with military honors. Those honored as pallbearers will be Hugh Kinney, Larry Stover, Randy Johnson, Dewey Johnson, Mark Tucker, and Sheldon Taylor. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday July 26, from 12 until 2 p.m.
