Mary Louise Des Jardines passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 16, 2014.
She was 82 years old and was the wife of Major Lawrence Des Jardines, Sr., USMC retired (1931-2006).
Survivors include three children, Lawrence Des Jardines, Jr., Indianapolis, Ind.; David Des Jardines and his wife, Shelley, Danielsville; and Ellen Des Jardines, Athens.
Mary had eight grandchildren, Erin, Meagan, Jessie, Peggy, Maria, Samantha, Mary, and Ruth and she had just recently become a great-grandmother to Emma.
She was an avid reader and crossword puzzler and was known as an animal lover.
Mary was born in Montclair, N.J. and spent most of her childhood in Bloomfield and East Orange, N.J.. She graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in East Orange and briefly attended Newark State Teachers College. She married Lawrence in 1955. After many years of travel as a Marine family, the Des Jardines settled in Albany, GA. Mary’s activities in Albany included volunteer work for the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society and Palmyra Medical Center. She was a devoted Roman Catholic her entire life.
Funeral services will be held at St. Teresa’s Catholic Church in Albany on Saturday, August 2, at 10 a.m. C.W. Phelps Funeral Home arranged cremation. Mary will be interred in Crown Hill Cemetery in Albany, beside her beloved husband of 51 years.
If desired, memorial gifts may be made to the Albany Humane Society, or to the Albany Detachment of the Marine Corps League.
