HOSCHTON – Elizabeth Lee Smith Brand, a devoted, loving and caring mother, wife and grandmother, 77, passed away Thursday, July 31, 2014.
A native of Atlanta, she was the daughter of the late Edmond Garnette and Julia Briscoe Smith. Mrs. Brand was preceded in death on September 2, 2010, by her husband, Ray Brand, Sr. She was a member of the Winder First Baptist Church and was a retiree of Hall’s Flower Shop of Stone Mountain. Elizabeth and her husband were instrumental in founding the Atlanta Chapter of the Retinitis Pigmentosa Foundation in the early 1970s.
Survivors include children, Rodney (Joni) Black, Flowery Branch, Gregory (Lane) Black, Braselton, Ray Brand, Jr., Buford, Scarlett (Barry) Sutlive, Norcross, Elise (Jim) Bachmann, Flowery Branch, and Carrie (Freeman) Poole, Jonesboro; 18 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Beverly (C. W.) Anderson, Snellville; and brother, Ronald Smith, Eaton.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, August 4, at the Winder First Baptist Church with the Revs. Lester Hall and Irby Stanley officiating. The remains will be placed in state in the church at 10:30 a.m. on Monday. Interment will be in Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs. A reception and serving of a meal of thanksgiving will begin at 2 p.m. on Monday, August 4, at 5460 Amberfield Dr., Norcross, GA 30092.
