ATHENS – Sarah Maudeen Patterson, 74, passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2014.
Born in the Mize Community of Franklin County, she was the daughter of the late J. D and Minnie Andrews Patterson. She was preceded in death by sisters, Jewell Lunsford, Ruby Mae Dean, Dorothy Nell Benson, and Ruville Beck; and brother, Huey Alfred Patterson.
Ms. Patterson attended Chase Street Elementary and was a graduate of Athens High School. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree at Tennessee Temple College and her Masters in Library Science at Texas Women College. Miss. Patterson had been librarian at both Tennessee Temple College in Chattanooga, Tenn. and Toccoa Falls College in Toccoa. She was active in the Children’s Bible Mission, which later became Neighborhood Gospel Missions, and was also an active member of Forrest Heights Baptist Church.
Survivors include sisters, Bobbie Ruth Wade, Gainesville, and Bernice Inez Drake, Athens; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 2, in the chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Purdy officiating. A committal service will be at the Cross Roads Baptist Church in Carnesville at 3 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Neighborhood Gospel Mission, 602 Bethesda Church Rd., Lexington, GA 30648.
