Joe Sartain (11-27-14)

GAINESVILLE – Joe Bond Sartain, Jr, 81, passed away on Thursday, November 27, 2014.

Born in January 16, 1933, in Madison County, he was the son of the late Joe Bond Sartain Sr. and Hester Carey Sartain. Joe attended Piedmont College, where he found the love of his life, Carolyn Batson. He began law school at the University of Georgia in September of 1955. He graduated and passed the bar exam in July of 1957. Joe began his career as a claim adjuster and his law career on October 3, 1959 with Mr. C.D. Stewart and his cousin, Jack Carey, joined them in October 1960. Joe left this firm and started his own firm with his sons, Perry, Phillip and then Larry.

He was a past commander of the Paul E. Bolding Post #7 American Legion. He was a very active with the Salvation Army and had served on the Advisory Board for a number of years. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War with K Company 11th Infantry Division, 3rd Army from 1949 until 1952. Mr. Sartain was a member of the Jones Chapel United Methodist Church. Mr. Sartain is preceded in death a nephew, Clint Chandler.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Batson Sartain; sons, Larry O’Neil Sartain (Judy), Phillip Bond Sartain (Lydia), and Perry Malcolm Sartain (Stephanie); grandchildren, Catherine, Sam, Hannah, Stephen and Jessica Claar , Callie, Carey, and Susanna, and Candler, Abby and Maddy; sisters, Lillian (Wesley) Chandler and Susan (Steve) Young; and nieces, Stacey, Amy and Lori.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 2, at the Jones Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Danielsville. The Rev. Richard Huycke will officiate. There will also be a celebration of life and luncheon held at the Jones Chapel United Methodist Church immediately following the graveside service.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Monday, December 1, at Little & Davenport Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the Salvation Army, 711 Dorsey Street, Gainesville, GA 30501, or the Jones Chapel United Methodist Church, 5601 U.S. Highway 29, Danielsville, GA 30633.
