BREVARD, N.C. – Sara Grace Yonce Silman, formerly of Augusta, fell asleep in Jesus on Sunday, January 25, 2015, at age 90. She was a resident of College Walk Retirement Community, Brevard, N.C, at the time of her death.
Born November 3, 1924, in Talmo, she was the first child of the late Andrew Ervin Yonce and Pauline Whitlock Yonce. She grew up in Jefferson, where she graduated from Martin Institute.
She married the late Clarence Ellis Silman in 1950 and moved to Augusta in 1953, where she lived until moving to Brevard in September of 2011. She worked as a beautician who owned and operated her own home-based business for many years.
She was a former member of First Presbyterian Church in Augusta, where she and her family worshiped the crucified, risen Lord of heaven and earth, Jesus Christ. She transferred her church membership to Cornerstone Presbyterian Church after moving to Brevard.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Clarence Ellis Silman (2005).
Survivors include a son, Henry Andrew Silman (Ellie), Pisgah Forest, N.C.; daughter, Sara Grace Silman Tatro (Jack), Macon; grandchildren, Shannon Silman Holland (Clay), Houston, Texas, Andrew Campbell Silman (Rebecca), Zachary, Louisiana, Sarah Tatro Gordy (John), Decatur, Ala., Stephen Ellis Tatro (Jessica), North Augusta, S.C., and Jeremy Andrew Tatro, Dallas, Texas; seven great-grandchildren; and a beloved brother, Harry Yonce (Eutelle), Martinez.
A graveside service will be held at Westover Memorial Park on Thursday, January 29, at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Cornerstone Presbyterian Church “building fund”, 645 Bert Lane Rd., Brevard, N.C. 28712, where her son is the pastor.
