Nora Elizabeth Bridges passed away on Monday, March 9, 2015.
Born in Talmo, on September 24, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Mae Taylor and Thomas Clifford Bridges. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred William Tolbert; and brothers, Willis Bridges and Howard Bridges.
Mrs. Tolbert graduated from Martin Institute and attended Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville . She and her husband owned Tabo’s Food Store in Jefferson for 25 years. Mrs. Tolbert was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jefferson, where she played the piano for the children’s Sunday School for many years. She was an avid bridge player, an excellent cook, and enjoyed working on the archives with the Jackson County Historical Society.
Survivors include a daughter, Beth Carter (Dan), Baldwin; son, Fred (Becky) , Marietta; grandchildren, Betsy Carter, Fayston, Vt., and Joe Carter, Jefferson; granddaughter-in-law, Sarah Carter, Jefferson; grandchildren, Anna (Ted) Wood, Marietta, and Claire Tolbert, Birmingham, Ala.; and a great-granddaughter, Emma Carter, Jefferson.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 14, at 2 p.m., at the First Baptist Church of Jefferson, with Dr. Michael Helms officiating. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall, Saturday March 14, from 1 to 2 p.m. before the service.
