JEFFERSON – George Perry Tate, 82, entered into rest Thursday, March 12, 2015.

Mr. Tate was born in Commerce, the son of the late Geoffry Perry Tate and Effie Cochran Tate. Mr. Tate was a retired Chemist Assistant with Rohne Polenc, was of the Baptist denomination, and a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Korean War. Mr. Tate was preceded in death by sisters, Annette Skelton and Amanda Sue Howard.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Judy Wood Tate, Jefferson; sons and daughters-in-law, James and Karen Tate, Melfa, Va., George and Sherri Tate, Opelika, Ala.; daughters and sons-in-law, Donna Tate, Hugheytown, Ala., Vanessa and Ricky Craft, Opelika, Ala., and Jennifer and Brian Clark, Jefferson; brothers and sister-in-law, Larry Wood, Bascom Skelton, and Jean Wood; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; niece and nephew, Sue and Steve Brooks; special caregiver, Marthalene Logan; and special friends, Frank and Gail Kimbrell.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 16, at 1 p.m., in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Hardy officiating. The burial will follow in the Woodbine Cemetery with Allan Craft, Justin Craft, C.J. Clark, Bubba Tatum, Eli Studivant, and Jackie McClusky honored as pallbearers. Great-grandsons, Trenton Craft, Will Craft, Heath Craft and Austin Tate will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends Sunday, March 15, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Evans Funeral Home.

Flowers are optional with memorials made to the charity of one’s choice.

Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, is in charge of arrangements.
