Connie Geneva Thompson Lester, 87, treasured mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, died Thursday, March 12, 2015.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Clifford Theron Lester.
Geneva was born in Gwinnett County on October 29, 1927, the daughter of the late Charles Guy Thompson and Ruth Ann Elizabeth Johnson Thompson. One of nine siblings, Gene was preceded in death by sisters, Shirley Thompson Hodge, Mone Thompson Glisson, and Gay Thompson Lee; and by her brothers, Monjet Thompson and A.L. Thompson.
Survivors include sisters, Vera Thompson Lester (Avery), and Patsy Thompson Turner; brother, Quinton Thompson (Shirley), brother-in-law, Troy Hodge; and sisters-in-law, Evelyn Thompson and Lorine Lester Roberts.
Gene and Theron raised their four children in Gwinnett County. In 1987, they moved to Ila, and continued their family tradition of Sunday lunch followed by a heated game of Rook, Genea’s favorite pastime.
Gene leaves behind sons, James Gary Lester and Rodney Glenn Lester, daughters, Brenda Lester Ashmore and Becky Lester Miller and husband Gary Miller; four grandchildren, Meghan Ashmore Alvarez (husband Sixto), Rodney Glenn Lester, Jr., Mary Allison Keating (husband Will) and Zachary Clifford Miller; and one great-grandson, Samuel Rawlins Alvarez.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, March 13, from 2 until 4 pm and 6 pm until 8 pm. Services will be held on Saturday March 14, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home with the Rev. James Shelton officiating. Interment will follow at Mr. Herman Church Cemetery.
