ST. MARYS, GA – Gary Neal Freeman, 61, passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2015, in Brunswick.
Born in Blairsville on September 3, 1953, Mr. Freeman graduated from Union County High School, then went on to complete his education at the University of Georgia for both his undergraduate and law degrees. At UGA, he graduated in the top of his class and was head of the Bar Review. Over the years, he practiced law in Atlanta, Marietta, Gainesville, Maysville, and St. Marys, both for larger firms and in his own practices. He also served as a Commissioner in Banks County and was the city attorney for Homer, Maysville, and Blairsville for some time. He was known for his intelligence, his wit, and his love of the law and philosophy. He also enjoyed fishing trips with his brother, collecting cars, listening to old music and traveling the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Florida coast.
Mr. Freeman was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Gladys Payne Freeman; and his niece Sonya Freeman.
Survivors include his loyal friend and caretaker, Nancy Crews, St. Marys; his children, Jessi (Nathan) Rothell, Homer, Sarah (Michael) Blackmon, Braselton, and Ethan Freeman, Buford; siblings, Jimmy (Susan) Freeman, Acworth, Brenda (James) Reece, Marietta, Sonny (Joyce) Freeman, Blairsville, and Larry (Marcia) Freeman, Smyrna; seven nieces and nephews; a step-grandson; and a grandson on the way.
A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
