God called a special angel home on Tuesday, April 28, 2015, when Jerry Russell, Sr. passed away from injuries and complications resulting from a fall and brain injury suffered December 12, 2014.
Jerry retired from the United States Navy as a Chief Petty Officer in 1991. He spent 21 years as an Aviation Electrician and totally enjoyed his military life. He was a licensed REALTOR® with Century 21 Ivey and Company in Athens. He is a member of Erastus Christian Church, The Retired Enlisted Association, The Fleet Reserve Association, The American Legion, The National Association of REALTORS®, The Athens Area Association of REALTORS®, The Women’s Council of REALTORS® , John H. Jones Masonic Lodge # 348 in Danielsville, Ga., and was a former Cub Scoutmaster.
Jerry is the son of the late James Knox Russell and Lorena Carithers Russell. Two brothers, Danny and Jimmy, and sister-in-law, Virginia Russell, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 50+ years, Sandra Adams Russell; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry L. (Rusty) Russell, Jr. (Mariluz), Fremont, Calif.; grandsons, Jacob and Noah Russell; and step-grandson, Ferris Sanido, all of Fremont; sister, Mary Frances Thomas (Lowell), Powder Springs; brothers, James Huerlan Russell and Knox Wayne (Butch) Russell (Inya), all of Comer; sister-in-law, Linda Fitzpatrick Russell, Hartwell.; nieces, Vicki Watkins (Guy) and Susan Armstrong (Greg), Powder Springs, Casey Luke (Jason), Anna Marie Woods (Darrell), Comer, Patricia Akins (Joe), Danielsville, and Danielle Johnson (Eric) Hartwell; nephew, Preston Russell, Atlanta; and several great nieces/nephews and one great-great niece.
Funeral services were held in the Lord & Stephens Chapel on Saturday, May 2, at with Pastor Steve Parker conducting the service. Honorary Pall Bearers were members of the John H. Jones Masonic Lodge. Cremation took place on Monday, May 4.
