COMMERCE – James “J.D.” Dorsey Morris, 74, passed away Wednesday, October 28, 2015.
Mr. Morris was the son of the late Hollis and Dorothy Ward Morris. He was preceded in death by a son, James B. Morris; son-in-law, Keith Lance; and sister, Maragarete Dalton. He was a member of the American Legion Post 215 in Homer, where he served as post commander, a 37-year member of BB Hunting Club in Taliaferro, Ga., a maintenance tech with Baker & Taylor, and retired after 38 years with Westinghouse.
Survivors include two sons, Jason Morris and Tyler (Jana) Morris; daughter, Janda (Morris) Lance; sister, Betty (Ray) Bond; brother-in-law, Milton Dalton; mother-in-law, Vivian Poe; grandchildren, Lanna Morris, Libbi Lance, Lauren (Greg) Jarvis, and Adeline Morris; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 1, at Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce Chapel, with the Rev. Donald Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Jackson Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Johnny Westmoreland, Larry Horne, Bob Hilburne, Johnny Minish, Neal Smith, and Mitch Seymour. Honorary Pallbearers will be the American Legion.
Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to the American Legion Post 215.
The family is at the residence of Vivian Poe, 747 S. Elm St., Commerce, GA, and will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, October 31, at the funeral Home.
