SANFORD COMMUNITY – Eunice “May” Pittman Edwards, 83, passed away on Wednesday, August 17, 2016.
Mrs. Edwards was a native of Athens, Clarke County. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Harvey Neil Edwards.
May was the daughter of the late William Fred Pittman, Sr. and Marina Zenobia Marlow Pittman of the Sanford Community.
Survivors include a brother, William Fred Pittman, Jr. (Faye), Smyrna; a sister, Glennie Dee Pittman Doster, Orlando; two sons, David Gordon (Barbara), Sanford Community, and Blakely Glenn, Marietta; five grandchildren, Marina (Wendel), Erik (Nami), Nathaniel (Talia), Terra (Frank), and Amanda; two great-grandchildren, Enzo and Payton; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Edwards was a graduate of the Athens High School Class of 1950 and held an associate degree from Oglethorpe University in Management.
Mrs. Edwards held many positions in life, most recently working as an administrative secretary at Ayco Corp. in Atlanta. After retiring, she was a real estate investor and full-time grandmother. She and Neil were charter members of the High Museum of Art in Atlanta. During its formative years, they helped fund the Athens Folk Music and Dance Society at the Benefactor Level for many years.
Mrs. Edwards was a loving wife and mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt. She was a member of Gordon’s Chapel United Methodist Church of the Sanford Community.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, August 19, at Bernstein Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, August 20, at Gordon’s Chapel United Methodist Church, 6625 Nowhere Rd., Hull, Ga. 30646. Interment will be at the Gordon’s Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
