JEFFERSON – Dr. Roger Drake Jenkins reclaimed his citizenship in Heaven on Friday, December 20, 2013.
Roger was born April 27, 1936. in St. Paris, Ohio, and was a graduate of Graham Local High School. He graduated twice from The Ohio State University, one of which was from the College of Medicine. He practiced family medicine for over 38 years, until his retirement in 2003. Dr. Jenkins was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest “Vet” and Lillian [Drake] Jenkins.
He served as President of the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians, was a member of the OSU President’s Club, a life member of the Ohio State Alumni Association, and was an avid Buckeye. He was also the Director of the Student Health Clinic at Ohio Northern University, President of Medical Staff at Lima Memorial Hospital, Medical Director of the Allen County Board of Health, and he served in the Ohio Army National Guard, Major, as a Medical Officer for nine years.
Survivors include his wife Judy; and five children, Don [Jill] Jenkins, Waynesville, Ohio, Debora [Tom] Valentine, Milton, Dwayne [Angie] Jenkins, Hilliard, Ohio, Tiersa [Christopher] Laskey, Jefferson, Kyle [Tammi] Jenkins, Grand Rapids, Mich., and his exchange-student daughter, Meike Scheidat, The Netherlands; 14 precious grandchildren, Kara and Ashley Jenkins, Zac and Vittorio Valentine, Brock, Cassie and Braden Jenkins, Drake, Emerson, Hollis and Philippa Laskey, Alexander and Jaden Jenkins, Jonas Scheidat; two first cousins, Bernice Cox and her daughter Debbie Bartholomew, Nashville, Ga., and Sam [Denise] Heckman and their children Allie and Jacob, New Carlisle, Ohio.
Visitation will be held Friday, December 27, 6 to 8 p.m. at Evans Funeral Home in Jefferson. There will be a Celebration of Life service held Saturday, December 28, at 11 a.m., at the Jefferson First United Methodist Church in Jefferson.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Roger’s name to The Ohio State University Medical School’s Scholarship Fund (Dean Scholarship Fund #313941) at Medical Center Development Office, 660 Ackerman Rd., P.O. Box 183112, Columbus, OH 43123.
