PORTERDALE – Louis Edward Eldridge, 86 passed away on Monday, May 5, 2014, at the Georgia War Veteran’s Home in Milledgeville, following an extended illness.
Born in St. Petersburg, Fla., on May 2, 1928, he was the son of the late Arthur Phillip and Mary Frances Carpenter Eldridge. Mr. Eldridge was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp. and United States Army, where he served our country proudly. He was retired after many years as an Information Specialist with the Georgia Department of Affairs. Mr. Eldridge was a member of Landmark Baptist Church of Newton County, a member of the Grant Reeves V.F.W. Post #7720, and also a member of the Cotton Indian Mineral Society, as well as the Georgia Mineral Society.
Mr. Eldridge was preceded in death by his first wife, Alice Flanigan Eldridge; and sisters, Catherine Waters and Ruth White.
Survivors include a daughter, Elaine Brown, Jefferson; son and daughter-in-law, Louis Edward and Julia Eldridge, Bogart; son, Denver Cameron Eldridge, Weston, Fla.; grandchildren, Jason Brown, Pendergrass, Chris Brown, Jefferson, Melissa and Kamilla Eldridge, both of Bogart, and America Eldridge, Kentucky; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, May 8, in the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home with the Rev. Dewey Fisher officiating. Interment will follow in the V.F.W. Memorial Park Cemetery in Demorest with full military honors provided by the Grant Reeves V.F.W. Post # 7720, the Habersham County American Legion Post # 84, the Rabun County D.A.V. Chapter # 15, and the Georgia National Guard. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7.
