WINDER – Roy J. Woodward, 74, died Saturday, July 28, 2012, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, following an extended illness.
Roy was born August 30, 1937, the son of the late Leroy M. and Elvira Ranieri Woodward in Mamaroneck, N.Y. He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church for over 30 years, where he was also employed for six years prior to becoming ill. He served four years in the United States Army after graduating from high school, and after discharge worked as a grocery store manager for over 40 years, including 20 years at Ingles here in Winder.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Woodward; a son, R.J. Woodward; stepdaughters, Cheryl Versic, Winder, Cindy Versic Jacobson, Portland, Ore., Cathy Versic, Tampa Fla. and Denise Perry, Winder; step-grandchildren, Jesse Harper, Tampa, Fla. and Trace and Camryn Perry, Winder; aunts, Arlene Wilson and husband Joe, Woodstock, N.Y., and Eleanor Pellicci, Englewood, Fla.; cousins, Scott Wilson and wife Susan, Rotunda West, Florida, Richard Pellicci and wife Robin, Santa Fe, N.M., and Kenneth Pellicci, Connecticut; and his late cousin Gail Downing’s children, Stacy Downing and Lindsey Downing, Greensboro, N.C.
A memorial service will be held at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Winder on Friday, September 7, at 7 p.m. Officiating at the memorial service will be Father Leo Holleran, Fr. Jaime Barona and Father Ted Johnson. A celebration of Roy’s life will follow the memorial service at the fellowship hall of the church.
