Barbara Barnett Benson, 71, entered into rest on Tuesday, August 19, 2014, following complications with her battle with cancer.
She was blessed with three caregivers who were at her side to comfort her, Ms. Kay Ray, Ms. Stephanie Hagan, and Ms. Melinda Cain. Barbara is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Benny Bradford Benson Jr.; and her parents, Henry Polk Barnett and Ida Sudderth Barnett.
Mrs. Benson was a lifelong member of Jefferson Presbyterian Church of Jefferson. During her time she served as Church Elder, Sunday school teacher, Bible school leader and whatever the church asked her to do. She retired with the State of Georgia with over 40 years of combined service between the Department of Family and Children Services and the Department of Corrections.
Mrs. Benson’s passions in life was God, her precious family, doing charity work, close friends, the color red, and last but not least, Elvis.
Survivors include one daughter Kelli Benson Sosebee and husband, Ted Sosebee; four wonderful grandchildren, Kaleb Sosebee, Ashton Sosebee, Kendall Sosebee and Rylee Sosebee, all of Jefferson; and one sibling, Sarah B. Gee, Jefferson.
The funeral services will be held on Thursday August 21, at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Evans officiating. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. prior to the funeral service. The burial will follow in the Evans Memory Gardens. She will be laid to rest beside her loving husband for eternity. Honored as pallbearers for the service will be Harrison McDonald, Tim Love, Alex Bryan, Mitch Shropshire, Wayne Norris and Frank Eberhart. Honorary pallbearer will be Joe Peppers.
Abiding by Mrs. Benson’s request, in lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Jefferson Presbyterian Church or charity of choice.
