WINDER – Duane Garrett, 86, passed away Sunday, December 28, 2014.
He was a charter member of Morningside Baptist Church and he was a charter deacon there. He owned and operated The Auto Sales Company of Winder for 35 years. Mr. Garrett was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Bertie Mae Garrett; his wife of 51 years, Geraldine Nash Garrett; and a grandson, Cory Ridgeway; and four brothers, James, Jessie, Harold and Bob Garrett .
Survivors include four children, Myron Garrett (Vickie), Winder, Debbie Greene (Lee), Winder, Becky Ridgeway, Bethlehem, and Deann Tkalec, Winder; two brothers, Bill Garrett, Winder, and Donald Garrett, St. Louis, Mo.; two sisters, Colleen Winkler, Cleveland, and Carolyn Crane, Jefferson; six grandchildren, Dean Garrett (Valarie), Winder, Heath Garrett (Terri), Newman, Matthew Greene (Candy), Winder, Cody Ridgeway (Hannah), Gratis, Jordan Tkalec, Winder. and Jacob Tkalec, Atlanta; eight great-grandchildren, Hannah, Abram, Rebakah, Grace, Courtney and Alex Garrett, Chandley Greene and Corey James Ridgeway; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5 until 9 p.m. Tuesday, December 30, at Smith Funeral Home in Winder. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, December 31, in the Smith Memory Chapel with the Rev. J. L. Yopp officiating. Interment will be in Barrow Memorial Gardens.
