Robert Lee Reed was born August 18, 1931, in Jackson County, the son of the late Robert C. Reed and Thelma Reed.
He attended Commerce City School and was a member of Jones Chapel Baptist Church, where he served faithfully as a deacon. He later became a member of Miracle Deliverance Holiness Church. He worked at the Harmony Grove Mill for many years until his retirement in 1996. Mr. Roberts was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Butler Reed; three sisters, Ruth Rucker, Louise Banks, and Geneva Rucker; and a son, Dennis Reed.
Survivors include seven children, Linda Reed, Greenville, S.C., Lewis Reed, Athens, Joyce Chandler (Ronnie Chandler), Commerce, Beth Glenn (Barry), Danielsville, Debra Gurola, Dillon, S.C., Charlene Reed, Jefferson, and Mike Reed, Atlanta; two brothers, John Aubry Reed and Samuel (Shirley) Reed, Commerce; two sisters, Bonnell Allen, Commerce, and Victoria Daniel, Nicholson; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other family members and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, December 27, at Jones Chapel Baptist Church with Pastor Bobby Patman officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Gardenview Funeral Chapel, Athens, was in charge of arrangements.
