JEFFERSON – Erene Dell Venable, 87, passed away Sunday, January 11, 2015, following an extended illness.
Ms. Venable was a life-long resident of Jefferson, and a member of the Bethany United Methodist Church. She was born March 14, 1927, the daughter of the late Okie Venable and Lottie (Wade) Venable. She was preceded in death by brothers, S/SGT Okie Venable, Jr., Jefferson, and George Venable, Athens; sister, Mildred Murphy, Gainesville; brother-in-law, Charles Bowden, Athens; and sister-in-law, Frances Venable, Athens.
Survivors include a sister, Betty Jo Bowden, Athens; brother, Cecil Venable, Jefferson; brother-in-law, Radford Murphy, Gainesville; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Ms. Venable had a passion for genealogy research and the history of Jackson County. She was known to relatives as the “family historian.” She truly enjoyed sharing her findings and photos with relatives and friends. She will be greatly missed.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 13, at Evans Funeral Home in Jefferson. A graveside service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 14, at Woodbine Cemetery in Jefferson, with Mr. Joel Murphy officiating.
Flowers are optional, with memorials made to the charity of one’s choice.
