LOGANVILLE – Jo Edith Edwards, 81, passed away Monday January 4, 2016.

She retired as a teller from BB&T in Danielsville. Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by her husband, Clark George Edwards; and parents, Tal and Sue Compton.

Survivors include her daughter, Josephine Hicks; sisters, Linda Bennett and Jackie (Charles) Drake; grandchildren, Courtney Rebecca Soto and Nathaniel Blane Hicks; and great-granddaughter, Cassadee Elizabeth Hicks.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 6, at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Rev. Mike Sarna officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, January 5. Burial will be at Meadow Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Buster Cates, Chris Tullis, Rachel Rogers, Gabby Tullis, Dawson Tullis, and Garrett Smith.

COMMERCE – Jimmy Audrey Stewart, 67, died Tuesday, January 5, 2016, at Athens Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Stewart was born in Commerce, the son of the late Jesse Leo and Julia Vaughn Stewart. He attended Erastus Christian Church and was a United States Army Veteran. Mr. Stewart was retired from the University of Georgia. He was preceded in death by a brother, Daniel Stewart.

Survivors include his wife, Madge Minish Stewart, Commerce; sons, Jimmy Sheldon Stewart, Danielsville, and Rodney Shane Stewart, Commerce; sisters, Betty Beck and Midge Mullinax, both of Danielsville, and Dianne Smith, Commerce; brothers, Leon Stewart, Acworth, and Carey Stewart, Commerce; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, January 7, at Erastus Christian Church with the Rev. David Strickland, Mr. Steve Parker and the Rev. Larry Dyer officiating. Interment will follow in Erastus Christian Church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, January 6, from 5 to 7 p.m.

COMMERCE – Albert Richard Ward, 71, passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at his residence.

Mr. Ward was born March 12, 1944, in Athens, the son of the late Clifton Albert and Ruth Miller Ward. He served his country in the United States Army, then began farming in Athens, and moved to Banks County in 1978, where he owned and operated 4W Valley Farm. Mr. Ward was president of Banks County Farm Bureau Board of Directors, member of Banks County Planning Commission, and director and past president of the Banks County Cattlemen Association. He served 18 years on the Farm Services Agency County Committee, and was the recipient of the 2015 Banks County Farmer of The Year Award. Mr. Ward was a member of the Blacks Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include, his loving wife of 43 years, Margie Strickland Ward, Commerce; daughters, Kelli Ruth Ward and Tracie Marie Wheeless and husband, Kris; grandchildren, Katie Marie Tuggle, Athens, Anna Nicole Tuggle, and Joseph Noel Tuggle, both of Commerce, Elizabeth Ann Wheeless and Natalie Nicole Wheeless, both of Fort Valley; sister, Mary Ward Vaughan, Arnoldsville; brothers, Daniel Preston (Bonnie) Ward, Bogart, and Clifton Lee (Cindy) Ward, Gray Court, S.C.; and 11 nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 9, at Blacks Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Chad Rising officiating. The body will lie in state from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. January 8, at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Jay Jackson, Jay Tucker, Ken Cowart, Chris Ashworth, Jerry Gordon, and Mike Seagraves. Honorary Pallbearers will be Banks County Farm Bureau Board of Directors.

COMER – Joe Clyde Guest, Jr, 76, passed away Jan. 6, 2016.

He was the son of the late Joe C. and Bertie Lou Guest. He was also a longtime member and deacon of Oak Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Guest was preceded in death by two brothers, James Guest and David Herring.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Jan. 10, 2 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Olds officiating. The family will be at the funeral home on Saturday, Jan. 9, from 6-8 p.m. for visitation. The interment will be in the church cemetery.

CLARKESVILLE, GA – Walter Otis Justus II, also know as Pop’s, 59, passed away Saturday, January 9, 2016, at the Habersham Medical Center.

He was the son of Walter Otis Justus and the late Betty Jo Gibson. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Hugh and Marie Justus; and brothers, Edwin and Harry Justus. He was of the Baptist denomination and served his Country in the United States Army. He was a teacher at Rabun and Towns County Schools, and was an amateur pilot that had a love for flying.

Survivors include sons, (Jay) Walter Otis Justus III, Joshua Isaiah, and Samuel Jacob Justus; daughters, Stacia L. Justus and Sally Justus; brothers, Tony Lazenby, Joe Lazenby, and James Justus; sisters, Anna Marie Justus and Elizabeth Justus; four grandchildren; and his significant other, Mary Gibson.

The family will receive friends Monday, January 11, at Beck Funeral Home, from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 12, at 2 p.m., at Beck Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ralph Smith officiating. interment will follow in the Hickory Flat United Methodist Church Cemetery in Banks County.

DANIELSVILLE – James Albert (Faust) Massey, 74, passed away Monday, January 11, 2016.

Mr. Massey was born on April 18, 1941, the son of the late Eugene and Grace Chapman Massey. He was a retired rural letter carrier with the US Postal Service, was of the non-denominational Christian Faith, had a special K-9 companion, Bella, he had a great sense of humor and will be dearly missed by his family.

Survivors include his wife, Jane Johnstone Massey, Danielsville; son, Ron Faust, Danielsville; three daughters, Stephanie Faust, Ohio, Allison Meeler, Athens, and Laura Shadley, Danielsville; and a number of grandchildren and other relatives.

Private memorial services will be held at a later date.

GASTONIA, N.C. – Mae “Mama Jones” Massey Jones, 96, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2016, at the Robin Johnson House in Dallas.

She was born December 24, 1919, in Banks County, Ga., the daughter of the late George D. Massey and Iona Peyton Massey. Mae was the oldest living member of Temple Baptist Church in Gastonia. She retired from Firestone Mills after 35 years of service. She was the connecting factor involving the real estate and development of the revitalization of the Loray Mills.

Survivors include daughters, Barbara Foy (Charles), and Melva Broyles (Dale); son, Keith Jones; grandchildren, Donna F. Stewart Smith (Lee Smith III), Jane F. Pearson (Darrell), Hal, Dan, Ros (Holly) Gause, Sidney, Kevin Berryman (Jackie), Dawn J. A funeral service will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 16, at Temple Baptist Church, 701 Littlejohn Street, Gastonia, officiated by Pastors Greg Ballard and Scott Whitener. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, January 15, at Greene Funeral Service – South Chapel – 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia.

Interment will be in Gaston Memorial Park.

Born in Danielsville, he was the son of the late Albert Louis and Elvira O’Kelley Fendley. He was preceded in death by a sister, Janie Fendley Daniel, and her husband, Watson.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Peggy Joyce Fendley; two children, Karen Gordon and her husband, Eddie Gordon, and Marvin Fendley and his wife, Marolyn Fendley; two sisters, Alice Martin and her husband, the late Arnold Martin, and Joyce Motes and her husband, Ernest Motes; four grandchildren, Lisa Fendley, Amanda Fendley, Sara Fendley, and Zachary Gordon; and one great-grandchild, Marissa Moon.

A native of Talbotton, Ga., she was the daughter of the late William Benjamin and Sarah Fryer Blanton. Mrs. Petree was a member of the Winder First United Methodist Church since 1959. She retired from Barrow County DFACS and was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution.

Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Henry Reyno Petree, Bethlehem; sons and daughters-in-law, Reyno Blanton Petree, Tucker, Benjamin Russell and Kenda Petree, Bethlehem, and Dr. Lewis Holden and Ellen Petree, Winder; and three grandchildren, Robert Russell Petree, Holden Ealy Petree, and Margaret Elizabeth Petree.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 13, at 4 p.m., from Winder First United Methodist Church. She will lie in state at the church 1 hour prior to the service. COMMERCE – J. W. McKinley, Sr., formerly of White Plains, Ga., died Sunday, January 17, 2016, at Hill Haven Nursing Home, at the age of 95.

Mr. McKinley was a great father, good friend to have, and a very good man. He was an avid gardener in his retired years, still gardening at age 94. Born in White Plains on June 25, 1920, he was the son of the late Edgar Lawson and Minnie McKinley. He was preceded in death by his son, J. W. McKinley, Jr.; granddaughter, Brandy McKinley; and eight siblings, Aretta McKinley, Earl McKinley, Walter McKinley, Edgar McKinley, Richard McKinley, Joe McKinley, Lewis McKinley, and Lena McKinley.

Mr. McKinley was well known in Greene County. He ran an auto/truck repair business for many years and also repaired farm equipment for the local farmers. He was well known in Greene County and surrounding counties as “Shop Man”. He loved mechanic work and continued to work on small engines, etc. after he closed his business. He also ran a chicken farm for many years.

Survivors include his daughter, Peggy Gibby, and son-in-law, Dean Gibby, Commerce; daughter-in-law, Diane McKinley, Greensboro; seven grandchildren, Alan McKinley, Greensboro, Stacy McKinley (Gwen), Danielsville, William Robert Mize, Oxford, Terry Gibby, Pelham, Ga., April Stephens (Wayne), Eufaula, Ala., Tammy Greear (Justin), Thomaston, Ga., and Cheryl Schumacher (Marc), Richmond Hill, Ga.; 11 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 23, at 3 p.m. at McCommons Chapel, 109 W. Broad Street, Greensboro, GA 30642, with the Revs. Dean Gibby and Robert Robinson officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 2 to 3 p.m. prior to the service at McCommons Funeral Home.

Mrs. Savage was born in Commerce, the daughter of the late Joe and Reba Nell Whitehead Payne. She was an avid animal lover and had been known to have tamed raccoons and other wild life in her youth. Mrs. Savage was a homemaker.

DANIELSVILLE – Bobby Paul Sanders, 69, passed away Friday, January 22, 2016.

Born and raised in Danielsville on November 13, 1946, he was the son of the late Ralph Albert and Allene Higginbotham Sanders. Bobby was a 1964 graduate of Madison County High School, and a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Vietnam War. In 2010, he retired from the Athens Clarke County Government after 33 years. Bobby had an avid love for the outdoors, hunting, fishing and shooting sporting clays, and he was a member of the Elbert County Gun Club. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Bobby loved life and lived it to the fullest. He touched people’s lives just by being himself with his kind heart and gentle ways. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Bobby was preceded in death by his brother, Albert Sanders; and a niece, Donna S. Hendrix.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, June Nash Sanders; daughter, Dawn Sanders D’Apollonio (Joe); son, Robert Edward Sanders; brother, Edward Sanders (Faye); and grandchildren, Olivia Morgan D’Apollonio, Joseph Connor D’Apollonio, and Lilly Irene Sanders.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 27, at 11 a.m., at Lord and Stephens, Danielsville, with the Rev. Charles “Buddy” Parrish officiating. Mrs. Hood was a lady of many talents. Being a talented seamstress, she made quilts and clothes for her children. Her green thumb produced beautiful flower gardens and a vegetable garden, where she cooked her meals for her family out of. She was the greatest wife and mother and provided the best home life for her husband and children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ferrell Jackson Hood; parents, John Franklyn Walker and Laura Earlene Hester Walker; son Ferrell Dalane Hood; grandson John Wesley Coats; granddaughter Amber Jo Hood Dunn; brother Orin Walker; and sister, Nellie Maude Walker.

Survivors include sons, Ronnie Franklyn Hood and Earl Bradley Hood and wife Cheryl; daughters, Sherry LaVonia Coats and husband Ronald, Nellie Louise Bishop and husband Jimmy; half sister, Ava Nell Pruitt and husband Randy; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 6, at Chestnut Mountain Church of Christ, 5111 Old Winder Hwy., Braselton, GA 30517.
Brother Ron Cope will be officiating. The family will have a private internment in Fayetteville, N.C.

JEFFERSON – Marjory Sue Worley Stockton, 74, entered into rest Thursday, January 28, 2016.

Mrs. Stockton was born in Jefferson, the daughter of the late Tom and Nell Payne Worley. She was retired from the manufacturing industry and was a member of Living Word Worship Center. Mrs. Stockton was preceded in death by sisters, Doris Lance and Hazel Nix.

Survivors include her husband, James Stockton, Jefferson; two sons, Randall Edward Stockton, Douglasville, and James Rickard Stockton, Jefferson; two brothers, Ralph Worley, Jefferson, and Thomas Worley, Gainesville; one sister, Lucille Lee, Winder; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, February 1, from the chapel of Evans Funeral Home with Pastor Joe Hayman officiating with burial to follow in Woodbine Cemetery. Gentlemen honored as pallbearers are Jeremy Stockton, Brian Stockton, Dalton Miller, Melvin Moore, Brandon Stockton, and Michael Sasser. The family will receive friends Sunday, January 31, from 6 to 8 p.m.

NICHOLSON – Rudolph Gaines, 65, entered into rest, Sunday, January 31, 2016.

Mr. Gaines was born in Pendergrass, the son of the late Luke and Lubelle Satterfield Gaines. He was retired from Universal Forest Products after 15 years and was of the Holiness denomination. Mr. Gaines was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy Revis Gaines, Nicholson; son, Michael Gaines and his wife Dione, Monroe; daughter, Sharon Gaines, Jefferson; brother, Clyde Gaines, Maysville; sister, Nellie Faye Lee, Jefferson; and grandchildren, Tiffany Frady and her husband Bill, Tesia Gaines, Wyatt Gaines, and Cory Prosser.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 3, from the chapel of Evans Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, February 2. Following Mr. Gaines wishes, his body will be cremated after the service.
