JEFFERSON – Janette Merk Johnson, 91, entered into rest Saturday, August 6, 2016.
Mrs. Johnson was born in Commerce, the daughter of the late Hoyt and Alva Garrison Merk. She graduated from Martin Institute, attended Athens Business School, and was a member of Galilee Christian Church. Mrs. Johnson enjoyed a career spanning 38 years as the cashier for Jackson EMC in Jefferson, and at the time of her retirement, was the longest tenured retiree. Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Johnson; and a brother, Emory Merk.
Survivors include one sister, Dorothy Merk Brewer, Athens; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, nephews. and great-great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 9, from the chapel of Evans Funeral Home with Minister Tom Plank officiating with burial to follow in Jackson Memorial Park, Commerce. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
