HULL – Mary Elizabeth “Lib” Chandler, 86, died Wednesday, August 15, 2012.
A native of Madison County, she was the daughter of the late George Nelson and Fannie Stevenson Stovall and the widow of William “Bill” Lewis Chandler.
Mrs. Chandler was a charter member of the St. James United Methodist Church in Athens and was employed with Snow Tire Company for several years before moving to Madison County. She was co-founder of Ila Restaurant and a member of Ila Baptist Church. Mrs. Chandler was a former president and treasurer of WMU, secretary of Joy Sunday School Class, and a choir member.
Survivors include two children, Deborah Elaine Lackey and William Wesley Chandler; two sisters, Alberta Wofford and Anne Epps; a brother, Nelson Stovall, all of Ila; four grandchildren, Shana Hoopaugh, Lee Lackey, Jason Chandler and Joshua Chandler; five great-grandchildren, Mack Lackey, Shea Allison, Katlyn Lackey, Aurelia Elizabeth Chandler and Brock Elliott Chandler.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 19, at 3 p.m. at the chapel of Lord and Stephens, Danielsville, with the Revs. Tim Peek and Thomas Dial officiating. Interment will be in Ila Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday, August 18, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
