ROME – Hilda Arnold Candler, 95, passed away early Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at a Rome health care center.
Mrs. Candler was born in Maysville on May 1, 1919, the daughter of the late Noah Avery Arnold and Tressie Novella Hill Arnold. She was preceded in death by her husband, William (Bill) Candler on December 25, 1994; and two sisters, Helen Hardin and Mary Arnold.
Mrs. Candler was a retired kindergarten teacher in public and private schools. She was a longtime member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, where she taught kindergarten Sunday school for over 50 years, and helped found the Mothers’ Morning Out Program.
Survivors include one daughter, Jane Chumley (Dennis), Rome; son, Bill Candler, Adairsville; two grandchildren, Paige Smith (Bryan), Elberton, and Heather Rush (Ralph), Rome; and four great-grandchildren, Olivia Laine Smith, Mason Candler Smith, Eli Bennett Smith, and Tyler Isaac Rush.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 21, at 10:30 a.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church with Dr. David Campbell and the Rev. Bryan Smith officiating. Interment will be held Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Sunrise Cemetery in Maysville.
