JONESBORO – Mary Helen Meadow Eckert, 95, formerly of Stockbridge, passed away Saturday, December 13, 2014, at Jonesboro Nursing Home.

Mrs. Eckert was preceded in death by her husband, Charles R. One of her greatest joys in life was the annual homecoming at Meadow Baptist Church in Comer, in which she was raised. Her last attendance was the 100th birthday celebration representing the few remaining members of the Meadow family who began the church.

Helen spent most of her adult life as a seamstress in several clothing factories, and as a sample maker at the Stone Mountain Handbag Company, from which she retired. She was also a marvelous quilt maker and an accomplished needlework crafter. She loved flower and vegetable gardening, traveling and spending time with all of her family.

Survivors include a son, W. Michael Cook and wife Valinda; grandchildren, J. Michael Cook and wife Tracy, Kenneth J. Wiley and wife Tina, and Vanessa Tanner; eight great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty M. Crumley and June M. Dean; and several nieces and nephews and their descendants, and an extended family of cousins.

Funeral services were held Monday, December 15, at Horis A. Ward Funeral Home, Fairview Chapel. Pastor Robert Vines officiated. Interment followed in Fairview Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were nephews, Chet Crumley, Byron Crumley and Darrell Dean, and niece, Christine C. Brown.

Memorials may be made to the building fund or perpetual care cemetery fund of the Meadow Baptist Church, 6158 Georgia 191, Comer, GA 30629, your local food bank or clothes closet, or a charity close to the giver’s heart.

Horis A. Ward Funeral Home, Fairview Chapel, was in charge of arrangements.
